Conor McGregor has announced on Twitter that he has accepted an offer from the UFC for an upcoming fight with Dustin Poirier, but says that the fight must take place in 2020 and indicated that he is available for the scheduled cards on November 21st or at the UFC’s events on December 12 and 19.
Talk of a rematch of their initial September 2014 fight has been rife in recent days with both fighters referencing a proposed clash on several occasions on social media recently. McGregor won their first fight, which took place at UFC 178 in Las Vegas, by first round TKO.
Hello Dustin! I accepted the @ufc offer to fight you, but told them it must happen in 2020. I’m ready for Nov 21st, given that cards recent injury issues, as well as any of the December dates, the 12th and the 19th. I’ll also still donate the $500k to The Good Fight Foundation 🙏 https://t.co/23hN4AHtoI

“Hello Dustin!” McGregor wrote to Poirier. “I accepted the UFC offer to fight you, but told them it must happen in 2020. I’m ready for Nov 21st, given that cards recent injury issues, as well as any of the December dates, the 12th and the 19th. I’ll also still donate the $500k to The Good Fight Foundation.”
McGregor had also recently proposed an exhibition sparring match with Poirier to take place in Dublin on December 12 with the proceeds to be divided towards Poirier’s ‘Good Fight Foundation’, as well as several charities McGregor is known to hold dear. Poirier accepted that initial offer.
It is understood that the UFC had initially proposed a January 2021 date for the fight. McGregor also indicated that he would still donate $500,000 to the ‘Good Fight Foundation’ if the fight takes place inside the UFC’s cage.
UFC president Dana White stated recently that he had drafted a bout agreement to have McGregor and Poirier rematch in the UFC, which apparently McGregor has referenced in his tweet issued Thursday afternoon.
Less than an hour after McGregor’s tweet, Poirier responded with the following:
We’ll get it worked out! Good man, We will use the donation to open a Boxing/MMA Academy on the side of town me and @dc_mma grew up were the tuition for the kids will be good grades.🙏 https://t.co/gfy7lMUBtp
